US NavyUniforms

Unread postby Herrwiggly » Sun Jan 31, 2010 7:00 am

Hi everybody.
I see on the US Navy web site that the summer whites and winter blues for petty officers are to be abolished,
An all year round uniform to be worn instead,
This comprises of black side cap. khaki shirt, black trousers, with waist length black jacket and black shoes, metal rank insignia will be worn on the shoulders of the jacket. and on the collar of the shirt,
Has anybody see anything on this subject?
There was no mention of seaman changing uniforms,
Cheers,

The only site where I could find any decent information (and any good illustrations) seems to be this. Hope this helps.

Shouldn't this one be in the American section?

The new uniform is called the Navy Service Uniform.

http://www.npc.navy.mil/NR/rdonlyres/6E ... V08190.txt

http://www.npc.navy.mil/CommandSupport/ ... 8SU%29.htm

It replaces the blue and white shirt and pants combinations. It is worn by both petty officers and seaman. The black jacket is actually outerwear and not part of the basic uniform components.

Seamen wear silver metal hash marks on the shirt collar but not on the cap or jacket.

There are other uniform changes comming.

Last week the CNO approved the return of the Service Dress Khaki uniform for officers and chiefs.

The navy is also testing a change in fit for the enlisted dress jumpers. This doesn’t change the look of the blue jumper but the new white jumper has blue stripes and stars in the same manner as the white stripes and stars on the blue jumper.

I hate to say it, but the hashes look way too similar to the new BSG lozenges in basic shape... smilies-15
