Any good photos and drawings of the Cuban military insignia and badges up to 1959?

sadly no but looking around at spanish language sources and some pictures, what I can make out is possibly:

Mayor General: 3 gold stars (one above 2)
General de Division: 2 gold stars (side by side)
General de Brigada: 1 gold star

Coronel: a silver National COA above 3 silver stars (1 above 2)
Teniente Coronel: a silver National COA above 2 silver star
Commandante: a silver National COA above 1 silver star

Capitan: 3 silver stars on top of one another
Teniente:: 2 silver stars on top of one another
Subteniente: 1 silver star

Sargento de primero: 3 chevrons pointing up over a diamond
Sargento de segundo: 3 chevrons pointing up
Sargento de tercero: 2 chevrons pointing up
cabo: 1 chevron pointing up

to be taken with a lot of caveat

A very interesting information, Marc!

SO, it looks like they had some kind of a british-american combined system: for officers mostly british and for NCOs mostly amercian.

And for generals - resembles the Russian Imperial Army system; they had no Brigadier General, but the Major General possessed two stars side-by-side, and Lieutenant General had 3 stars located as a triangle. The full General had plain shoulder straps.

Very, very interesting...
