I have just published a new book(s) analyzing the U.S. Army’s organization from 1784 to 1916.
Unfortunately I had to publish in two volumes because the text was too long for one.
I hope this will be of use.
The paperback edition of volume one is available here:
http://www.amazon.com/Organization-Stre ... 84+to+1916A kindle version should be up in the next day or so.

I hadn’t realized how long it was going to be when I was writing. When I assembled all of pieces into one file it was over 1,200 pages. After adjusting the font sizes it was still just over 1,000. So, I divided in two. The format didn’t really lend it’s to being divided, but I did the best I could.
