Canadian Police on UN missions

Unread postby marcpasquin » Mon Apr 14, 2014 4:11 pm

Despite its members coming from the RCMP, SQ, OPP and various municipal services, the canadian police contingent serving in Haiti uses a single standardised uniform with the only indication of it's members service of origin being a patch worn on the upper right arm.

Of note was the fact that, probably to make interaction easier, they all wore RCMP insignias on their shoulder straps regardless of the ones worn by their home service. While most canadian municipal police services wear british (or british inspired) insignias and so appear to have a more or less one on one equivalent, those insignias stood out a fair bit on those who came from Quebec due to the stripes style insignias normaly worn by them.

In this picture, you can see a montreal police sergeant (left) wearing 3 chevrons and a crown instead of the usual stripe of the SPVM he would otherwise wear.

Marc, that looks like a CAF badge of rank, not RCMP. An RCMP sergeant has a Crown in the crux of his chevron, not a maple leaf.

try blowing up the image a few times on your screen and you'll notice the red backing between the arches of the crown.
