As promised in the Europe Police page here are some pictures of US Border Patrol. The USBP is the uniformed law enforcement branch of the Immigration and Naturalization Service and was formed in 1925 as the result of Mexican Bandit/Revoluntionary leader Pancho Villa's 1916 raid on Columbus NM, prior to thatt there were just 75 Mounted Immigration Inspectors who patrolled both the Mexican and Canadian borders. The have ranks like Agent, Supervisory Agent, Director, etc. As for the rank insignia, pay close attention to the collars and shoulders, some of the pics may be a bit large:

PS: Migra in the 2nd pic is Spanish for immigration, apparently they mess up the 3 immigration/border enforcement forces (Customs, INS, Border Patrol)

The US Immigration & Naturalization Service actually ceased to exist on March 1, 2003, and the US Border Patrol was then subordinated to the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection, in the US Department of Homeland Security. Other parts of the USINS went to the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Here's the high points of their organizational history:

1904 Mounted watchmen employed by the United States Immigration Service
March 1915 Mounted Guards established
28 May 1924 United States Border Patrol established in the Bureau of Immigration, Department of Labor
10 June 1933 Bureau of Immigration and Bureau of Naturalization merged to form the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service, Department of Labor
14 June 1940 USINS transferred to the Department of Justice
1 March 2003 United States Border Patrol transferred to the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection, Department of Homeland Security
