Hi Chris / herrwiggly:
I have tried as well and document is either moved or gone
Don’t know much but, since the combination under Homeland Security, there are apparently some changes but still 3 branches.
Investigative - Special Agents - Badges but no uniforms
Field Operations - Customs Inspectors seem to still have blue uniforms and a Navy like insignia.
Border Patrol - Green uniforms Chief, Deputy Chief, Chief Patrol Agent, Deputy Chief Patrol Agent, Assistant Chief Patrol on down.

This is link to a picture of the Chief of Border Patrol who seems to now rank with an Assistant Commissioner (no uniform at that level normally) but as Chief he has 4 stars http://www.customs.gov/ImageCache/cgov/ ... fhires.jpg

They are apparently combining all of these into CBP officers but still seem to be separate. The Border Patrol has 12,000 uniformed officers, and the Customs Branch over 19,000 uniformed Inspectors
Wow – no idea it was that big

My interests are any Navy, Marine or Auxiliary Sea Service rank insignia or history.
Slightly anal retentive but at least I have a sense of humour about it

Yeah, alot more people then it seems are emplyed in law enforcement related functions in the US, do you know if the Border Patrol has rank insignia or if they just have their ranks inscribed on their badges?

The Border Patrol Service that I have seen wear the typical green uniform and most seem to wear collar insignia in typical military fashion. (various grades) I do not see Border Patrol very often as they seem to be mostly concerned with the US Mexico Border and only occasionally see them when I drive across.
The Customs Inspectors seem to wear the "blue "uniform and I am unclear as to rank, some wear "navy style" shoulder stripes - some no insignia. I’ll have a good look next time I travel.

Im pretty sure US Customs dosent use Navy style shoulder stripes, im sure they used to but I dont think they do anymore, maybe on the dress uniform, but on the regular "duty" uniform they use bars, eagles, oak leaves, etc.
