Hi guys, just saying a quick hello from London. I am a British Prison Officer who has collected and had a great interest in Prison/Correctional insignia for many years. I just stumbled across this group so I hope to make some friends, get some detailed information and help in any way I can.

Hi, welcome to the forum!

Is it true that HMPS has abolished rank insignia entirely except for Prison Officer and Senior Prison Officer?

Hi Chris and thanks for the welcome.

In the UK only the several ranks of Prison Officer have insignia, our Governor (Warden) Grades simply wear suits and always have done. Our ranks are diminishing as we speak actually and we have only recently been asked to choose from several new forms of eppaulettes that will come into use next April (along with new terms and conditions and working practices), which are similar to that we have already but not as good as previous ones.

Once I work out how to post photos on here I'll show some.
