Hi Everybody !

I'm sorry to tell you that , but the ranks of the "Land of Honest Men" ( this is what "Burkina Faso" means ) are those of Upper-Volta. You can find an
(old) photograph of the Captain-President Blaise Compaoré on :

http://www.otal.com/blaise.jpg

Ranks go up to Colonel ( six stars ).

All the Best

Olivier

Upper Volta is the former name of the country (Burkina Faso) it was changed in 1984 to bury colonial past.
And their rank insignia is the same on the webpage.

Hi Everybody,

What I would like to explain, it is that the rank chart for Burkina is obsolete, but the only proof I have, it is that photograph I found on the web.

All the Best

Unread postby uriks » Fri Jun 20, 2008 6:07 pm

Hi All,
About Soviet-style insignia Oliver is right.
At the first time after revolution Burkina Faso’s army officers wore Soviet-style rank insignia.
Ranks were indicated as follows:
Colonel - two red vertical stripes and two middle size gold stars in a vertical line.
Lt.Colonel - two red vertical stripes and one middle size gold star.
Commandant - one red vertical stripe and four gold stars.

Capitaine - one red stripe and three gold stars in a vertical line.
Lieutenant - one red stripe and two gold stars in a vertical line.
Sous-lieutenant - one red stripe and one gold star.
I have photos.
Cheers.
Uri.
