there is a lance corporal rank 1 chevron and a sergeant major rank -the seychelles coat of arms

I would assume that the "Sergeant Major" rank is very similar to the "Senior Sergeant" or Station Sergeant function. I find it odd that such a rank, which is primarily a military rank, is used in a police force.
