SOUTH AFRICAN POLICE 1913 - 1922

(?) Senior or Divisional Inspector - Crown over "SAP"
Inspector - Three bath stars over "SAP"
Sub-Inspector - Two bath stars over "SAP"

*Head-Constable 1st Class - 2 inch gold embroidered crown above the cuff
*Head-Constable 2nd Class - 1.25 inch gold embroidered crown above the cuff

Sergeant 1st Class - Crown over three chevrons
Sergeant 2nd Class - Five point star over three chevrons
Lance Sergeant - Three chevrons
**Corporal - Two chevrons
**Lance-Corporal - One chevron
Constable

FOOT NOTES:
(?) - Not sure of correct title in 1924 it represented either a Divisional Inspector or a Senior Inspector. I would have assumed it would be Superintendent.
* - Became a single class in 1922 namely "Head Constable" wearing the former insignia of a H/Const 2. In the SAP as in the RIC/RUC a Head Constable was equivalent to a Warrant Officer rather than a Sergeant as in some Indian Police forces.
** - These ranks were discontinued in 1922.
