Indian Naval Forces - Women

Unread postby Robb Mavins » Fri Sep 26, 2003 12:46 am

I am curious as to whether there was or is a separate Women's Naval service similar to the British WRNS (Wrens), Canadian (WRCNS) or USN (Waves).

Thank you

My interests are any Navy, Marine or Auxiliary Sea Service rank insignia or history.
Slightly anal retentive but at least I have a sense of humour about it

hmm.. I don't think so.. even Waves has been obsolete for quite a long time and the IN does have female line officers.

Agreed Assuming no current service, but I am thinking historical (as in WWI or WWII). I know that Canadian Women’s Services disappeared in about 1970 and the British in early 90's. Unsure of exactly when US Waves, Spars, WACs, etc. disappeared but really more curious from a historical point of view.

The Women's Royal Indian Naval Service definitely existed in WWII. Can't find any further details, I'm afraid, but I suspect it was very similar to the British WRNS.

Hi jmilitaria welcome to the forum, nice to have someone from your part of the world, I'm not too sure if you are the first or not. Any help you can give us with rank information of the Indian Services,, i.e.. Coastguard, customs, fire service, ambulance service and prison service would be extremely useful. Any help in these areas would be most appreciated. Look forward to hearing from you. :D :D :D Cheers.
