Indian Army Postal Service - Warrant Officers

Unread postby LONDON » Sun Jul 25, 2010 8:46 pm

The Indian Army Postal Service (APS) gives its postal assistants the rank of Warrant Officer.

http://www.knackpost.com/Circulars/PA_S ... ATIONS.pdf

Quoting from the above link:

'The candidates have to fulfill the required medical and physical standards prescribed by the Army Headquarters. The selected candidates will be governed by Army Act and Army Rules during their services in the APS, which entails Field service anywhere in India or abroad, wearing of uniform as applicable to Army personnel and appropriate rank structure. The initial induction will be in the rank of Warrant Officer.'

Can someone tell me where this rank fits into the wider Indian Army rank structure - it doesn't appear in the rank charts.

In this document: http://www.irfc-nausena.nic.in/irfc/ech ... ction.html :

Warrant Officers are above Havildar,s but below Naib Subedars. No equivalency in the Navy or Air Force.

WO are also mentioned in the Army Act as "officers, junior commissioned officers and warrant officers of the regular Army" http://www.legalindia.in/the-army-act-1950part-i
