I found this in the Flags of the World Site:
According to this:
http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/xt%5Eregmt.htmlPolitical and military history of Tibet, by Gyaltse Namgyal Wangdue
"The uniform, emblems, insignias and colours of all the Tibetan army units were all made based on the British style."
So we probably know that the rank insignia is British derived, but could have the "pips" look like this:
http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/xt%5Earmy.htmlAnd the "crowns" the flaming symbol in the Tibetan flag?

Based on available data, we can confidently say that the Tibetan army used British rank insignia?
Whether there is information on the Tibetan system of ranks?
