I saw some AFP rank insignia on Alastair's website and i think Pavel has a AFP page with a Senior Constables rank insignia. I tried going to the AFP website, but I couldent find an email adress.

Australian Federal Police Ranks

Unread postby Alastair Dinsmor » Wed Sep 24, 2003 12:48 am

Hi Chris,
The rank insignia on my website under AFP are in fact the o/o/style, as worn by the Australian Commonwealth Police (an ancestor of the AFP).
The badges progress upwards on the display through the Australian Capital Territory Police to the AFP which is now the force title.
The ranks will not be too different from the other Oz states and a likely to be very similar in colouring to those of Victoria, their close neighbour.
My collection of over 6000 items of police insignia are from every country in the World.
This includes 1300 items of Police rank insignia.

I found this site listing the ranks for each Australian police force:

http://www.aic.gov.au/policing/stats/pol95.html

AFP ranks are:

- Comissioner
- Deputy Comissioner
- Assistant Comissioner
- Commander
- Superintendent
- Sergeant
- Constable

Hi guys,
Australian Federal Police largely don't use formal rank insignia for most of their members anymore, the exception being the members who provide Community Policing to the Australian Capital Territory, and those members who came across from the Australian Protective Services when it was absorbed into the AFP a few years ago (these are the guys that provide security at most larger airports around the country). The higher ups (commissioners etc) would probably have a uniform in the cupboard for more formal occasions...
By and large, members of the AFP are engaged in plain clothes investigation and use the generic title of "Federal Agent" these days rather than any specific titles of rank.
Hope that helps to the debate...
Cheers,
Andrew

Hi,
I saw this on the australian defence website:
Image

I think this rank is "Station Sergeant".

Also, there doesn't seem to be any Inspector ranks in the AFP.

More AFP ranks

found this from the Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Station_sergeant#Australian_Federal_Police

Whilst on deployment in peacekeeping operations members of the Australian Federal Police are appointed to the ranks of Senior Sergeant (three chevrons below a crown which is surrounded by a laurel leaf), Station Sergeant (a crown surrounded by a laurel leaf), Superintendent (a pip and a crown), or Commander (three pips and crown).

Station Sergeants serve as Team Leader and senior NCO.
