First Marshal of the Empire (ITALY)- World War II

Unread postby ELSUPREMO » Fri Mar 30, 2007 5:53 am

The grade of First Marshal of the Empire (Italy) was created for and held by two persons simultaneously: Benito Mussolini and King-Emperor Victor Emanuelle III. Their grade insignia cuffs consisted of two greca for generals with the Roman (Fascist) eagle between. The shoulderboards were of several designs, and included the Roman (fascist) eagle surmounted by the chevron of First Corporal of the Fascists (for Mussolini) and the Roman (fascist) eagle surmounted by the Italian (Savoy) crown for the King-Emperor. Some variations existed where, for example, the crown was attached to the eagle while others had the crown separate. There were proposals for more Imperial Roman influenced designs with the SPQR type Imperial Eagle between staffs, but these did not make it beyond the drawing stages.
