It's been awfully quiet here for awhile. Lets try a quiz:

* Find five errors in this illustration of WW2 Luftwaffe insignia.

1. Name of the rank. Taking into account blue facing color this NCO could be from Luftwaffe Medical branch with cornflower blue Waffenfarbe. That's why name of the rank should be 'Unterarzt', not 'Oberfähnrich'.
2. Unterarzt as an officer candidate had Oberfeldwebel epaulettes with two silver stripes worn with officer uniform. Not with one stripe as Unteroffizier candidates had.
3. Officer's uniform indicated status of an officer candidate. There were two distinctions for candidates: Unterarzt (Unteroffizier) epaulettes and collar patches (Unteroffizier). The rest - as officers worn. Uniform cap of Unterarzt had silver belt, not black one.
4. Camouflage patch - Stabsfeldwebel's patch is depicted (with a pip), not Unterarzt/Oberfähnrich/Oberfeldwebel.
5. Wrong color of the camouflage patch. Should be blue/grey or tropical brown.
6. The lace on collar is too thin :)

1. Name of the rank. Taking into account blue facing color this NCO could be from Luftwaffe Medical branch with cornflower blue Waffenfarbe. That's why name of the rank should be 'Unterarzt', not 'Oberfähnrich'. * ''Correct.''

2. Unterarzt as an officer candidate had Oberfeldwebel epaulettes with two silver stripes worn with officer uniform. Not with one stripe as Unteroffizier candidates had. * ''Wrong''; thats how they did it in the army, but not in the Luftwaffe. No silver stripes at all would be correct.

3. Officer's uniform indicated status of an officer candidate. There were two distinctions for candidates: Unterarzt (Unteroffizier) epaulettes and collar patches (Unteroffizier). The rest - as officers worn. Uniform cap of Unterarzt had silver belt, not black one. * ''Correct.''

4. Camouflage patch - Stabsfeldwebel's patch is depicted (with a pip), not Unterarzt/Oberfähnrich/Oberfeldwebel. * ''Correct.''

5. Wrong color of the camouflage patch. Should be blue/grey or tropical Brown. * ''Might be right''; I did not consider the color, just the erroneous pip.

6. The lace on collar is too thin :) * ''Wrong''. Definitely too thin, but officer candidates did not wear any collar lace.

Yes, I agree. It's supported by different books and archive photos. There were deviation but they just confirmed the rule.

Sorry, it was my wrong 'irony'. Yes, of course they should not wear two laces on their collars - just one - thin silver piping as officers. But there were TWO LACES depicted. It's not correct.
