Good day, all.

I have been tirelessly deleting spam and hacked accounts from our board daily for about two months now and I am TIRED.

Most are comming from China and are using "XXX.gmail.com" email accounts in the login creation.

I am SORELY tempted to just block the creation of any account with a gmail email.

Is this feasible?

How may of us used their gmail email to create thier account?

Much appreciated,

Unfortunately G-mail is becoming popular with non spammers also.
By blocking G-mail spammers would just move onto another account, block that one and the next one and so on.
Like blocking a geographical region, once you start where do you stop!

A limit of one post a week for a set period for new accounts may help to deter spam.

Spammers tend to go for an easy way to flood a site, by limiting posts it could deter them due to the time and effort involved with such limit in force.

Alternatively a short period of no new members, downside to this however is that it could result in losing quality members.

It is feasible to block G-mail, but maybe as a last resort.

I like Bill's suggestion of x posts a week for a newly registered member.

I see lots of sites where when one wants to post a message, one has to copy a word which is give randomly in a textbox and is written croucked. Isn't that a type of solution and not so diffucult to implement I imagine.

Maybe about time for a few changes.
Firstly setting up an area devoted to the selling of uniforms and insignia, along with a new rule.
All selling should be done within the designated area and any selling of products other than in the designated area would result in termination of membership...
This could give the forum additional appeal and may even result in gaining some sponsorship, while allowing the appropriate spammers some rope.
Also one or two members may have collections that could benefit by the added dimension.
In case you are wondering if this idea is for my own benefit, I don't collect...
Regards
