new rank insignia for the icelandic coast guard

It seems to be a new rank for the Icelandic coast guard, i was looking in yesterdays newspaper and looked an article about uniforminsignia for Icelandic persons in the police and coast guard.
The director general of the Icelandic coast guard was dressed in a uniform where he had one thick stripe where on top was a sircle simular to the danish for commodore.

Dear Kaldi,

Finally the Icelandic Coast Guard and Police have there 1 thick stripe Commodore and 4 star Brigadier rank. What I don't understand is that the Police needs so much rank insignia. In Belgium only these ranksinsignia are available but earlier we had State Police officer ranks from Second Lieutenant till Lieutenant General now only these excist:

LOCALE POLITIE (Locale Police)
Hoofdcommissaris - Chief Commissioner - Captain*, previous Lt-Colonel
Commissaris - Commissioner - Lieutenant, previous Major
Aspirant Commissaris - Candidate Commissioner - Second Lieutenant
Hoofdinspecteur - Chief Inspector - Chief Warrant Officer UK
Aspirant Hoofdinspecteur - Candidate Chief Inspector - Warrant Officer UK
Inspecteur - Inspector - Master Sergeant
Aspirant Inspecteur - Candidate Inspector - Sergeant
Hulpagent - Traffic Police Officer - Corporal
Aspirant Hulpagent - Candidate Traffic Police Officer - Private
* Ranks are only indications not real ranks

The ranks for Federal Police are the same but the rank of Hoofdcommissaris and Commissaris are now used to give ranks to previous officers of the Rijkswacht / Gendarmerie (State Police) from Second Lieutenant to Lieutenant General. Hi Peter.
There is a different betven the police insignia and the ones from the ICG
The police have 14 insignias since 1997 when new law for the police came to act but the ICG have had 12 since the (cod wars) against GB. But some weeks/months ago the director general of the ICG added a new rank in the system, the one for commodore, ( US. rear admiral lower half ) for him self. The ICG does not have a special regulations about the ranking system but they are making one based on those ones they allready have and im looking forward to see what it will look like.
