Commissioner– Crown and two stars over SAP on shoulder
Deputy-Commissioner– Crown and star over SAP on shoulder
Divisional and Senior Inspector – crown over SAP on shoulder
Inspector – three stars over SAP on shoulder
Sub-Inspector – two stars over SAP on shoulder

Head Constable / Hoofkonstabel – crown on forearm, SAP on shoulder

1st Class Sergeant / Eersteklas Sersant – crown over three chevrons on arm, SAP on shoulder
2nd Class Sergeant / Tweedeklas Sersant – 5-pointed star over three chevrons on arm, SAP on shoulder
Lance Sergeant / Lans sersant – three chevrons on arm, SAP on shoulder
Constable / Konstabel – no insignia, SAP on shoulder

Notes

SAP metal titles in brass (gilt for officers)
Crown = Imperial/Tudor crown in gilt/brass
Star = Bath Star in gilt/brass
Chevron = British Army style chevrons points worn down, gold braid material

Thanks for the info Milhistry.

This is different from the SAP rank insignia on the website. I assume that Pavel's page is post 1961? Would you happen to have a complete 1913 - 1994 break down of rank insignia?

Your assumption is correct.

Yes I do have a breakdown of some of the major changes that I will post separately. I sourced most of my information from archived dress regulations etc. as sadly, there is not much historical information on SAP ranks and insignia published.

Next major sets of changes occurred in 1938 when the senior officers ranks were expanded and started wearing blue gorget patches on their collars.

Others major changes were in circa 1950, 1961, 1964 and 1995. I will deal with these as separate posts.
